Art center Tegel south
Since
1998 have the former Rheinmetall AG. Resounds and the adjacent
administrative building waited for a new tenant. The entire area that
has a use surface of 33500 covers squares meters stands under monument
protection. The brick building was established in the 30's-years and
served for the conclusion as granary. The administration building
accommodated asylum-seekers and stood then longer time empty.
Altogether 60 areas, which cover on the average 40 square meters, were
available. Into March 2001 then the first artist drew into the empty
building. Since then it is rented by the office for federal fortune
artists, who with much commitment and selfinitiative made a creative
and communicative center within fewer years from a desolate building.
Under a roof completely different artist came together: Painters,
commercial artists, sculptors, photographers, Patchwork artists, Floral
designers, musicians, video artists etc. The common activities are
coordinated and organized in a community of interests. Cultural
meetings take place, like e.g.. "Open studios"; yard parties with
music, "French-German eight" on the occasion of 40. Anniversary of the
Elise contract, as well as single and group exhibitions of artists.
Starting from May 2004 a gallery with three areas will be available in
the art center, which can be rented by particulars or several artists
for exhibitions. Many artists offer courses and/or advanced training
seminars, which are noticed actively in their studios. Over such
meetings as well as over the co-operation of some artists in the "Kiez
AG Tegel south" the house is increasingly open for citizens and
citizens in the region. In addition of the large commitment of the
associations and institutions locally the art center contributes
increasingly to a stimulation of the so far rather typical "dormitory
suburb" Tegel south. Each tenant of the art center must renovate its
area and/or its areas at own expense. But the rent is relatively
moderate: 5? Per square meters up to 3? For the cellar areas, where
already some workshops, e.g. printing element places for erasures, was
furnished. Artists, who have still interest in a studio area, can apply
by writing to the VBG Verwaltung Berliner Grundstücke GmbH, Schlesische
Str. 29-30, 10997 Berlin or lead under the telephone number 030 - 612
60 14 an informative discussion with Mrs. Anna Bujotzek. The contracts
are for an unlimited period and quarterly subject to notice. www.kunstzentrum-berlin-tegel.de Press Releases:Kunstzentrum im Lager der Senatsreserve, Morgenpost , 15.10.06, Marianne Rittner.
